AMS Group is a multi-disciplinary professional services firm working across audit, accounting, tax, advisory, and consulting, among other areas. Being part of the group means we can bring you the right expertise from across our teams. We remain responsible for your information as your data controller, and wherever it is shared within the group it is handled with the same care and the same duty of confidentiality.
The information we collect
We collect the personal information we need to provide our services to you. Depending on your circumstances, this may include:
- Identity information, such as your name, date of birth and proof of identity
- Contact details, such as your address, telephone number and email
- Financial information, such as bank details, tax references and statements
- Employment and relationship information, where relevant to the work we do for you
- Information from our dealings with you, such as letters, emails and conversations
- Publicly available information, for example from Companies House
In some cases we may handle special category information, such as health details, or information about criminal convictions. We only collect and use this where we need to in order to provide our services and where we are permitted to by law.
Some of the information we ask for we are required by law to collect, for example to verify your identity. If you do not provide it, we may be unable to act for you.
Where we collect your information from
Most of the information we hold comes from you. We may also collect it from public sources such as Companies House, from credit reference and fraud prevention agencies, from your previous adviser where they are handing over your affairs, and from other parts of AMS Group where you are already a client elsewhere in the group.
How we use your information and our legal grounds
We use your information to provide the services you engage us for, to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and to run our business. The law allows us to do this where we have a proper reason, and we rely on the following:
• To provide the services in our contract with you
• To meet our legal and regulatory obligations, such as verifying your identity, guarding against financial crime, and complying with tax rules and the rules of our professional bodies
• For our legitimate interests in running our business and the wider group, and in preventing fraud. You can object to this use.

Who we share your information with
We share only what is necessary, and with:
- Other parts of AMS Group, where they help us deliver your services
- Our anti money laundering and identity verification providers
- Our IT, software and other service providers who support our work
- Our professional advisers and insurers
- Our professional and supervisory bodies, who may review our files to check the quality of our work and our compliance with their rules, and who are bound by confidentiality
- HMRC, regulators, the Police and other authorities, where we have a legal or regulatory obligation to share
Working within AMS Group
From time to time we may involve colleagues elsewhere in AMS Group to help deliver your services. Where we do, your information may be shared with them for that purpose, and it is treated with the same care and the same duty of confidentiality throughout. You can ask us not to do this at any time.
Occasionally, where our professional rules allow and another part of AMS Group could help you with something else, we will raise it with you and only introduce you or pass on your details with your agreement.
If you take up a service from another part of AMS Group, that part will look after your information for that service and explain how it does so.
Reporting concerns
We are required by law to guard against financial crime. In some circumstances we may have to report concerns to the authorities, and the law may prevent us from telling you that we have done so.
Looking after your information
